When jackets didn't take puljujarvi, a part of me was hoping jets would trade Trouba. For 4th overall and end up with both laine and puljujarvi |

think we traded to far down in 2nd to late 3rd to move up 4 spots for a guy who may have been there anyways but oh well |

I'm not worried about Myers or Melchiori when it comes to skating. Myers can get up and go when he wants to and Melchiori won't see NHL ice for this team again with Morrissey, Kichton, and now Stanley ahead of him. |

Fantastic night for the Jets! I think I am more relieved than excited about finally getting Laine. Of course it's not a sure bet he'll have a better career than pooly but man it feels good to finally have a player with his skill set.
Surprising move to trade up 4 spots from 22 to 18? Over pay? Reach for Stanley? NO
The way defencemen were being over drafted in the 1st round (aside from Chychrun's slide) there was no way chevy could stand pat at 22 and come a way with Stanley. Heck even Cholowski went 20th overall.
Forget the #'s of the picks and think of the players available. Initially I was upset seeing the names of the talented forwards we passed up (gauhtier, rubstov, jones), but in reality they have their own warts and I see little value taking a chance on them just to add them to the log jam of forward prospects we have. Now say we stood pat at 22 and missed stanley and cholo and grabbed a forward, now we're anxiously waiting for 36 and hoping to throw a dart at who? Girard or Clague? and that is just best case scenario. Chevy turned the 22nd and 36th picks in to an asset that fills our biggest organizational hole, now of course like all prospects Stanley still has to pan out but I see value with this move, not to mention taking back the 79th pick.
I kinda like that there's a notion out there that chevy reached for Stanley. This was a total-Chevy pick. Prospects with loads of potential whose development has been on a steep incline leading up to the draft, instead of more refined prospects who may be further along but are plateauing. Chevy has a type and Stanley fit it, if he didn't I really doubt he makes the trade.. Only other explanation is flat-out desperation.. but my Homer-optimism easily rules that out.
So in conclusion, fantastic night for the Jets!

Philly thanks you dearly for that trade. I think it should work out pretty well for the both of us. |

Heard: Saad, 2017 #1, second this year, and something else? For the Jets #2 from CBJ |

That would make me pause and consider if I were Chevy |

Still, I think Chevy has to take Laine. He's a proven pure goal scorer with other assets. The way the Jets struggle at times to score goals, it is imperative to grab these supposed superstars when given the opportunity. The pressure put on anyone else chosen or traded for, would be that much greater, as it would be for Chevy. Saad and others are good players, but just that. Laine by so many other people, seems to be thought of as an elite franchise changing type player making him a must pick, for Chevy. |

great draft, Jets !
Cederholm could be a sleeper.

I think the Jets did great on draft day. Hopefully the trend continues this week, when they acquire Matt Duchesne in a trade, and either Steven Stamkos or Kyle Okposo in free agency.
I just have a feeling that Stamkos is either going to the Islanders or the Jets. Remember folks you will have heard it all from the Ultimate Jet first!!!! |

No interest in Saad over Laine, and we don't need to have 2 first rd picks every year.
Okposo would be nice, and Wheeler could be the one to sell him on playing so close to home (Minnesota).
Left handed D is still a glaring need and need to add a solid vet there or get aggressive with a trade package....after watching the playoffs you only need 3-4 dmen and some guys who can not get scored on for 7-9 minutes a night.
Look at Pittsburgh D......Total new respect for Letang and how good he is! |
